An extended weekend serves as the perfect introduction to Big Bend National Park and West Texas. With each additional day, explore hidden gems within the park, experience the charm of neighboring towns, and fully unwind at Camp Elena. To help you make the most of your adventure, we've put together an extended weekend itinerary with what we consider to be the top experiences in this area of Texas.
Drive to Terlingua by way of Alpine, Marathon, or Presidio (the River Road). Make sure to fuel up!
Grill out at Camp Elena, or enjoy a casual dinner at Taqueria El Milagro (BYOB).
Grab coffee and a bacon croissant sandwich at Espresso Y Poco Mas.
Pack a lunch and spend the day in Big Bend National Park.
Hike one of the following trails: Lost Mine, Mule Ears, Balanced Rock, or the Window.
Drive Ross Maxwell Scenic drive and eat lunch at the Santa Elena Canyon, or cross the border into Boquillas, Mexico and dine at Falcon's Restaurant.
If you have time, explore the Fossil Discovery Exhibit or Boquillas Hot Springs .
Option 3: Take a day trip to Marfa.
Have breakfast and brew local coffee at your tent.
Possibly squeeze in another short hike and some site seeing on your way home!
